Norman Richardson

MUSIC FOR VOICES

Enelar Music features original compositions and arrangements by Norman Richardson, mainly for mixed voice choirs and vocal ensembles.

Norman Richardson was born in England and moved to Northern Ireland in the early 1970s to continue his career in education. Since school and college days he has been involved in various forms of music-making: as a singer on stage, on the concert platform and in choirs; as a teacher working with school and college choirs and ensembles; as a choral director; and as a composer and arranger. In 1974 he founded the Corrymeela Singers, which he directed until 1985 and for which he wrote a great deal of original music. He has continued to work in various capacities with a range of other choral groups and since 2014 he has been Musical Director of the Counterpoint Choir, based in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Having taught Music and Religious Education in a range of schools for some years, Norman's more recent work in education has centred on approaches to cultural and religious diversity and on developing opportunities for children and young people from different backgrounds in Northern Ireland to learn about, with and from each other.  As a teacher education lecturer in Stranmillis University College, Belfast, he continues to be involved, post-retirement, with a range of musical activities and in 2018 Stranmillis designated him an Honorary Fellow in acknowledgement of his contribution to music and the creative arts.
