Overview
The Ibanez RG421S is a high-performance electric guitar designed for players who value fast playability, powerful tones and reliable hardware. Part of the renowned RG series, it combines Ibanez's distinctive angular body styling with a comfortable neck profile and versatile electronics, making it an excellent choice for rock, hard rock, metal and technical playing styles.
Featuring a meranti body and a maple Wizard III neck, the RG421S is designed to provide a balanced playing feel and comfortable access across the fretboard. Its jatoba fingerboard, 24 jumbo frets and flat 15.75-inch radius make it well suited to fast riffs, intricate chord work and expressive lead playing.
Two Ibanez Quantum humbucking pickups deliver punchy low frequencies, defined midrange and clear high-end articulation. Combined with a five-way pickup selector and a fixed F106 bridge, the RG421S offers tonal flexibility and dependable performance. Its Sea Shore Matte finish and Cosmo Black hardware complete a distinctive, modern appearance.
Key Features
Playability and Comfort
The RG421S features Ibanez's Wizard III maple neck, designed with a thin, flat profile that supports fast movement and precise fretting. The 15.75-inch fingerboard radius provides a relatively flat playing surface, making it particularly suitable for technical lead playing, wide string bends and fast runs.
With 24 jumbo frets and a 25.5-inch scale length, the guitar offers a full two-octave playing range and the familiar string tension of a standard electric guitar. Its double-cutaway RG body also provides convenient access to the higher frets.
Tonewoods and Construction
The meranti body provides a balanced tonal foundation, while the bolt-on maple neck offers a responsive playing feel. The jatoba fingerboard adds a warm reddish-brown appearance and a smooth surface suited to precise fretting.
The matte polyurethane finish gives the guitar a contemporary look, while the fixed-neck construction and straightforward body design make it a practical instrument for regular practice, rehearsals and live performance.
Electronics
The RG421S is equipped with two Ibanez Quantum passive ceramic humbuckers, designed to deliver powerful, articulate tones with a punchy low end and clear note definition.
-
Neck Humbucker: Provides full-bodied tones for melodic lead playing, thicker cleans and sustained notes.
-
Bridge Humbucker: Delivers aggressive, focused tones suited to distorted riffs and cutting lead lines.
-
Five-Way Pickup Selector: Offers five pickup combinations for a wider range of sounds than a conventional three-way HH configuration.
-
Master Volume Control: Adjusts the overall output level.
-
Master Tone Control: Shapes the brightness and warmth of the guitar's sound.
Hardware and Setup
The RG421S features an Ibanez F106 fixed bridge, providing a stable string anchor and individual string-height adjustment. Its hardtail design offers straightforward maintenance and dependable tuning stability without the added complexity of a tremolo system.
Ibanez tuning machines provide reliable tuning adjustment, while Cosmo Black hardware complements the Sea Shore Matte finish. The guitar comes fitted with D'Addario EXL110 strings.
Design Details
The Sea Shore Matte finish gives the RG421S a distinctive, understated appearance, combining a cool blue-green colour with a non-gloss finish. The sharp contours of the RG body create a modern silhouette, while the dark Cosmo Black hardware and white dot fingerboard inlays provide contrasting details.
