Matchetts Music is proud to be one of the few remaining independent, family-run businesses in Belfast city centre, celebrating its 85th year in business in 2021.

We sell everything from guitars to drums, violins, trumpets, banjos, cajons, pianos, keyboards and much much more.

We are proud to be a leading supplier of musical instruments to our customers in Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland. Our passion for musical instruments has seen us build a strong and loyal customer base. We offer expert advice and support for each of our customers and their musical journey. 

Our history 

The original Matchetts Music store was established by Mr Stanley Matchett in 1936 at 44 Wellington Place. Unfortunately though, the building was bombed at the height of the troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. 

Matchetts Musical Instruments was then purchased in 1979 by Derek and Ann Crowther, where it became a family-owned business, alongside their son Neil and daughter Tamara, who still remain as company directors and owners. 

The new family owners ensured that Belfast customers were still able to source and purchase quality musical instruments. They have sustained Matchetts Music and its legacy, and customers today still appreciate their expert advice alongside their range of high quality sourced musical instruments that are on offer.

Today, Matchetts Music is situated in the heart of Belfast City Centre. We supply an incredibly wide range of different musical instruments and we have seen our customers progress from the initial first instrument, right up to purchasing high quality pieces that match their musical talent. 

We provide support and guidance to each of our customers and we help them find instruments that suit their needs and their musical ability. Many of our pieces become part of our customers' treasured collection of their musical instruments.
