Premium Tonewoods for Classic, Balanced Acoustic Voice
Top: Solid Sitka Spruce or Solid Sapele
In true Martin tradition the Retro D-10E draws on all-solid wood construction with a solid Sitka spruce top for broad dynamic response, clarity and crisp articulation or with a solid sapele top option for a warmer, slightly earthier tonal character. Both approaches yield a full, balanced dreadnought voice rooted in Martin’s heritage.

Back & Sides: Solid Sapele
Sapele back and sides add warm mids and a responsive, resonant tone that sits between classic mahogany and rosewood voicings, contributing to the Retro’s rich, open sound.
Together, these tonewoods echo the classic Martin dreadnought voice powerful bass, clear highs and complex harmonics with a character that’s equally suited to vintage-inspired acoustic playing or modern performance contexts.

Elegant Craftsmanship & Detailing
The D-10E Retro combines Martin’s heritage aesthetic with thoughtful appointments:

  • Rosette & Purfling: Mother-of-pearl pattern rosette with multi-stripe trim surrounding the soundhole, nodding to Martin’s classic design language.

  • Fingerboard & Inlays: Richlite fingerboard with tasteful mother-of-pearl dot or pattern inlays a durable modern material that evokes ebony while remaining consistent with Martin’s sustainability aims.

  • Finish: Satin body finish that lets the wood resonate freely and gives the guitar a refined, understated look true to the Retro theme.

  • Binding: Traditional black binding with multi-stripe purfling for a classic yet rugged aesthetic.

Neck, Feel & Hardware

  • Neck: Select hardwood neck with Martin’s Performing Artist profile and High Performance Taper comfortable for a wide range of genres and playing styles.

  • Fingerboard Width (Nut): ~1-3/4″ (44.5 mm) a classic dreadnought width that balances chord work and single-note playing.

  • Scale Length: ~25.4″ (645 mm) traditional Martin dreadnought scale for strong tension and clear articulation.

  • Tuners: Enclosed chrome-gear tuning machines for reliable tuning stability.

  • Bridge & Nut: Richlite bridge with compensated Corian nut for focused tone and tuning accuracy.

Electronics

  • Pickup/Preamp: Martin’s E1 electronics system (electro-acoustic configuration) provides a faithful amplified tone with phase, tone and volume controls ideal for live performance or plugging into a PA/amp.

Protection & Case

  • Case: Typically supplied with a premium soft-shell gig bag or similar protective case suited for travel and stage use.
